“Thank you to Deletta Gillespie for sharing your amazing voice and presence at our house concert yesterday. You always over deliver!” Ginny Robertson, Founder - On Purpose Network for Women.

I’m Deletta Gillespie – thanks for visiting! Let me tell you a little about myself.

When I was seven-years-old, I noticed that most of the adults in my life disliked their jobs. They seemed miserable and always complained about going to work. I thought if they found jobs that were fun and made them happy they’d stop complaining. It was then that I promised myself that when I grew up, I wasn’t going to be like them, I wouldn’t get stuck doing work I hated.

That was also about the time my Mama asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I told her in this exact order: a singer, an actress, a dancer, a writer, and a teacher. She laughed and asked, “All that? How are you gonna do all that?” I remember saying, “I don’t know Mama, but I will. I promise.”

Fast forward to adulthood. I’ve kept those promises. Just as I envisioned as a kid, I’m a multidisciplinary teaching and performing artist, playwright-author, and singer-songwriter. I LOVE performing and creating performances.

I’m also known to scour thrift stores in search of items to decoupage.

I love being onstage more than anything. Although teaching the performing arts is a close second. And then there’s the decoupage.

I especially enjoy and performing musical and theatrical work that focuses on the themes of social change, justice and spirituality. My work is oftentimes serious, occasionally quirky, sometimes silly, but always evocative. On my own, and through collaboration with other artists, my mission is to devise work that encourages conversations that help promote understanding and empathy between people and communities.

My work with bands trends on the fun and silly, but is no less an experience.

So when you come to one of my shows, expect to be entertained, and occasionally inspired and informed.

I’m looking forward to seeing you in the not-too-distant future. But until then, roam around the pages of this site. Look at some pics. Watch some video. Listen to some music. Or start a conversation – send me an email. I’d love to chat!

Wishing you light and love,

Deletta
